Funding Resources

Teachers should check with their school or district funding coordinator for the best funding resources available for staff development. Possible funding sources may be PTO/PTA, and other local and state funding sources.

The U.S. Department of Education Grants

    The U.S. Department of Education (ED) is providing nearly $38 billion this year to states and school districts, primarily through formula-based grant programs, to improve elementary and secondary schools and meet the special needs of students. ED is providing about $2.5 billion to help strengthen teaching and learning in colleges and other postsecondary institutions and over $4 billion to support rehabilitation, adult education, research and development, statistics, and assessment. ED awards about $1.5 billion in contracts each year for goods and services necessary to carry out its mission.

Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation/The Lucile Cornetet Professional Development Fund

    The Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation and its Lucile Cornetet Professional Development Fund offer assistance to educators through Individual Awards for Professional Development three times per year. These awards are competitive and are available to all educators.

    The online Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance gives you access to a database of all Federal programs available to State and local governments (including the District of Columbia); federally-recognized Indian tribal governments; Territories (and possessions) of the United States; domestic public, quasi-public, and private profit and nonprofit organizations and institutions; specialized groups; and individuals.

NEA Foundation for the Improvement of Education

    The NEA Foundation supports a variety of efforts by teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff to improve student learning in the nation's public schools, colleges, and universities. Grant funds may be used for fees, travel expenses, books, or other materials that enable applicants to learn subject matter, instructional approaches, and skills. Recipients are expected to exercise professional leadership by sharing their new learning with their colleagues.
